that is perfect value in chia's world
chia has already made enough bad trades to warrant being fired immediately. |

Who do you think GMs get more excited about when they see the name pop up on the iPhone, Bergevin or Chiarelli? |
|
|
|
Chiarelli on a good day makes terrible trades. With the panic he's in now, CBJ should walk away with a huge win on a trade with the Oilers. |

Okay so I dropped this in the Oilers thread and wanted your perspectives on it. Am I off-base or is this within reason?
"If the rumors are true and they're working on a deal with Colubmbus, I'm making it clear that a deal for Nuge doesn't happen without Savard coming back. If that's agreeable, then I try to work a deal that'll bring back a guy like Milano (skill upgrade) and/or Jenner (C replacement). Impossible to know where talks would go, but my aim is something like Nuge, Maroon and Benning for Savard, Jenner and Milano.
Nuge for Savard - both teams fill a need (skill C for top-4 RD) but Columbus gets the better value
Maroon for Jenner - Oilers get a C to take on tough comps (RFA at year's end) and Columbus gets a net front PP presence to replace Jenner but Oilers get the better value
Benning for Milano - bringing in Savard would seal Benning's fate as a cap casualty anyway and Columbus could use a functional two-way RHD with Savard moving out and Edmonton gets some high end skill and speed to bolster their attack. Neither is tearing it up right now so value is likely close.
It's by no means a perfect deal, but it shares risk and benefit equally across both teams by my estimation."
Note worth mentioning is that Savard doesn't really fill our needs exactly so, despite his value as a Dman, it is impacted by us already having a quality shutdown guy. |

Jenner has not played centre since his junior year....you would have to slide Draistail back at centre.

That's the plan anyway He needs to run his own line. Do you figure Jenner could play C? He's at least been capable of winning faceoffs at a reasonable rate. I was all over Karlsson all summer so I'd have had him in there if it weren't for that expansion draft. |

So, this is pretty off base, since we don't want either Maroon or Benning, and you won't get near Jenner with what your roster has. Savard for Nuge is interesting, and you might get Milano as well if you include a draft choice. Keep the rest of your roster. |

Honestly - IMO you (edmonton) need Savard more than Murray, Nutivaara, or Carlson. You want a leader back there who has been playing Top 4 minutes. And - he keeps the opposition from the front of the net. Nutivaara & Carlson are still wet behind the ears, NHL wise, and need more experience. |

Bone,
03 is right, you need an experienced D-man, would you take Jack Johnson and say Dean Kukan and a pick (2nd or 3rd round) for RNH? If you are trying to win this year Johnson has offensive skills and has improved his defensive play. If you do not like him let him go at the end of the year as a UFA, take a good young D-man and pocket your pick. You also get some salary relief if I have the numbers right.
If you think that's too little the CBJ could sweeten the deal some more. |

The deal doesn't happen without Savard. Period.
Johnson is everything the team doesn't need: a LD, a shady track record of effective defense, almost 30 and a UFA at the end of the year. |

Are you guys really high on Jenner? From the outside, he seems kinda like Maroon but with a more rounded game but I don't claim to really know- hence why I'm here.
Are you sure on Benning? Sure his inclusion is to mitigate the loss of one of your two RD, but he's still a competent defender with upside. He's had some wobble to his game this year, but such is usually the case for 2nd year defenders. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he was a regular 2nd pairing guy this time next year. Might not mean much, but for what it's worth. |

CBJ has 7 solid NHL defensemen, plus an 8th in Scott Harrington who is serviceable. The deal that makes sense sends a defenseman out without one coming back. And yes, the team, coach and GM are really high on Jenner. I think a deal with Edmonton is a one for one or close-not a 7 or 8 player deal. |

I agree from a CBJ perspective as well. I think the CBJ organization holds Murray in higher esteem than Savard atm (so do I). And I don't see JJ as the piece of the trade atm (maybe at the deadline). Savard makes the most sense in a deal right now, I think. |

Extremely. He's probably the most underrated player on the team for what he does away from the score sheet. Truth be told, anybody on the CBJ side who sees him as tradeable right now is high as a kite. He's a main cog in the engine of this team. He literally does everything from PK to PP and 5 on 5 he can be utterly dominant in giving his linemates space and on the forecheck. |
